GCC Tire Industry: Vehicle Growth, Logistics Expansion, and Technology Shifts

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tire industry is closely linked with vehicle ownership, infrastructure development, logistics activity, tourism, and construction. Passenger cars represent the largest demand base, while commercial vehicles, off-road equipment, and two-wheelers contribute additional consumption. High temperatures, long-distance driving, and extensive highway use also create specific requirements for tire durability, heat management, traction, and tread life across the region.

According to the GCC tire industry analysis by Markntel Advisor, the sector was valued at approximately USD 9.14 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 12.21 billion by 2032, reflecting a CAGR of 4.94% during 2026–2032. Passenger cars represented about 69% of demand in 2025, while radial tires accounted for approximately 96%. Saudi Arabia led the regional industry with a 48% share, supported by its large vehicle fleet and strong new-vehicle sales.

Vehicle Ownership Sustains Core Demand

The expansion of the GCC vehicle fleet provides a structural foundation for tire consumption. Saudi Arabia remains particularly important because of its large population, extensive road network, and high dependence on private transportation. New vehicle additions increase original-equipment requirements, while the growing installed fleet creates a larger base of vehicles requiring replacement tires over time.

Saudi Arabia recorded 805,034 motor vehicle sales in 2024, compared with 758,791 in 2023. The regional vehicle-sales data illustrates the continued scale of automotive demand in the Kingdom, which remains a major contributor to tire consumption across the GCC.

Passenger Cars Maintain a Dominant Position

Passenger cars accounted for approximately 69% of GCC tire demand in 2025. High private-vehicle ownership, urban commuting, intercity travel, and consumer preference for SUVs and other larger passenger vehicles all contribute to this position.

The passenger-car segment also generates substantial replacement requirements. Tires experience wear from mileage, braking, acceleration, road temperatures, and vehicle loading. In the GCC, these factors can be particularly relevant because vehicles may operate for long periods on highways and under high ambient temperatures. Replacement decisions therefore increasingly consider durability, wet grip, heat resistance, rolling efficiency, and overall service life.

Radial Construction Is the Regional Standard

Radial tires represented around 96% of the GCC industry in 2025. Their dominance reflects widespread use across passenger cars, SUVs, and commercial vehicles. Radial construction can provide advantages such as improved heat dissipation, tread stability, rolling efficiency, and high-speed performance.

These characteristics are relevant to GCC operating conditions, where high road-surface temperatures and long-distance travel can place significant demands on tires. The prevalence of radial products also reflects the specifications of modern vehicle platforms, which are increasingly designed around radial construction as standard equipment.

Infrastructure Investment Supports Commercial Demand

Infrastructure development is an important secondary source of tire consumption. Construction of highways, airports, residential developments, hotels, industrial zones, and other large projects increases the use of trucks, buses, loaders, earthmoving equipment, and other heavy vehicles.

Saudi Arabia's logistics and transport infrastructure is also expanding under its economic diversification agenda. The 2025 Vision 2030 annual report recorded a 32% increase in cargo throughput compared with 2024, alongside continued investment in logistics capacity and transport integration. This Vision 2030 logistics performance report highlights the growing role of freight infrastructure in the Kingdom's wider economy.

Logistics Growth Raises Tire Utilization

The development of e-commerce, warehousing, regional distribution networks, and cross-border trade is increasing the utilization of commercial vehicles. Delivery vans, light trucks, heavy trucks, and buses can accumulate high mileage, creating recurring replacement requirements.

Higher utilization can also change purchasing priorities. Fleet operators typically evaluate tires based on durability, fuel efficiency, load capacity, maintenance requirements, and expected service life. In a region where logistics routes can cover substantial distances, reducing unplanned tire-related downtime can be particularly important for fleet operations.

Heat and Road Conditions Influence Tire Selection

The GCC's climatic environment creates distinctive operating requirements. High ambient temperatures can increase tire temperatures during extended driving, while hot road surfaces can accelerate tread and compound deterioration. Tire manufacturers therefore need to formulate products capable of maintaining structural integrity and performance under elevated thermal conditions.

SUVs and off-road vehicles can face additional requirements when operating across desert environments or unpaved surfaces. Strong sidewalls, appropriate tread designs, load capacity, and resistance to punctures or impact damage can become important considerations depending on application.

Local Manufacturing Could Reshape Supply

Localization is emerging as an important opportunity for the regional tire supply chain. Historically, the GCC has depended heavily on imported tires and raw materials, exposing distributors and manufacturers to international freight costs, exchange-rate movements, and supply disruptions.

The development of domestic production facilities could reduce some of these dependencies while creating opportunities for regional specialization. Local manufacturing can also allow products to be developed around GCC-specific requirements, including high-temperature operation, long-distance highway use, and off-road applications. Such investment could gradually strengthen the region's industrial base.

Digital Tire Retail Is Expanding

Digitalization is changing how tires are discovered, compared, purchased, and fitted. Consumers can increasingly review tire specifications, prices, warranties, load ratings, and performance characteristics through online platforms before visiting a workshop or arranging installation.

Commercial fleets are also adopting digital tools for tire management. Tire-pressure monitoring systems, connected diagnostics, mileage tracking, and predictive maintenance can help operators identify abnormal pressure or wear and plan replacements more systematically. These technologies can improve maintenance visibility while supporting more efficient tire lifecycle management.

Efficiency Standards Influence Product Selection

Tire performance is also becoming more transparent through labeling and regulatory requirements. Saudi Arabia's standards authority, SASO, provides an Energy Efficiency Label for Tires service, requiring manufacturers and suppliers to meet applicable technical and conformity requirements for registered products.

Such systems provide consumers with information about characteristics including energy efficiency and wet-surface performance. As awareness of fuel economy and operating costs increases, tire selection may increasingly involve comparisons of lifecycle performance rather than only purchase price.

Outlook for the GCC Tire Industry

The GCC tire industry is being shaped by vehicle ownership, passenger-car demand, radial adoption, infrastructure investment, logistics expansion, climate conditions, and digitalization. Saudi Arabia remains the largest regional contributor, while the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain provide additional demand through passenger mobility, commercial transportation, tourism, and construction activity.

Future development is likely to emphasize heat-resistant compounds, durable radial construction, EV-compatible products, connected tire-management systems, and locally adapted manufacturing. At the same time, raw-material volatility and import dependence will remain important considerations. As regional vehicle fleets and logistics networks expand, tire performance and lifecycle economics are likely to become increasingly important across GCC transportation systems.
