Finding a table for two in Doha is rarely a problem. Finding somewhere that can comfortably seat six, eight or ten people is a different matter.
Once the group gets bigger, you start noticing things that do not matter as much on a normal dinner out. Can everyone sit at the same table? Is there enough room for serving plates? Will someone end up eating with their elbow pressed against the next person? And if children are coming, is there enough space to make the meal manageable?
The pizza still matters, of course. But when you are choosing between dine-in restaurants for a group, seating and service can make just as much difference as the menu.
Start With the Dining Room, Not the Menu
Before deciding where to eat, have a look at the restaurant itself.
Photos can tell you quite a lot. If most of the dining room is made up of small two-person tables, a group of eight may be awkward even if the restaurant has excellent pizza. Look instead for larger tables, booths or seating that can be rearranged.
Mall restaurants are often convenient for larger groups because parking, nearby entertainment and larger common areas make the whole outing easier. The downside is that popular locations can get very busy at peak times, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings.
If children are joining the group, I would also check for family seating and highchairs rather than assuming the restaurant will have them.
Pizza Box Is Set Up for Casual Group Dining
Pizza Box is one of the more straightforward choices if you want a casual pizza restaurant rather than a place where everyone has to sit down for a formal Italian meal.
Its Place Vendôme location serves hand-tossed, stone-baked thin-crust pizza, and the brand specifically promotes its restaurants for birthday parties, family gatherings and corporate events. It also offers catering options for larger groups.
That makes the restaurant worth putting on the shortlist when the occasion is bigger than an ordinary dinner.
The City Center location is another possibility, particularly if the group is already planning to see a film. You can keep the meal fairly casual and combine it with the rest of the mall visit.
Pizza Hut Makes Group Ordering Fairly Easy
For a family group where nobody can agree on the same pizza, a large menu can be more useful than a restaurant specialising in one particular style.
Pizza Hut has 50+ branches across Qatar, so location is rarely the difficult part. The more important question is which branch has enough seating for your particular group.
The menu also gives you plenty of ways to divide the order between different tastes. One pizza can be chicken, another pepperoni, another vegetarian or spicy, with sides added for people who want something other than pizza.
Pizza Hut Ramada on C Ring Road is another casual dine-in option to consider for a group, although, as with any chain, I would check the exact branch before making plans for a large party.
That is particularly important if you are choosing a restaurant because of its seating rather than simply its food.
Dodo Pizza Can Work Well With Children
Dodo Pizza in Bin Al Sheikh Towers is another casual choice, with dine-in, takeaway and delivery available.
Its larger combinations include two- and three-pizza options as well as pizza-and-pasta bundles, which gives you some room to order different flavours without buying a separate meal for every person.
For families with younger children, the restaurant's newer full-size format is particularly relevant. The company has described its newest Qatar location as a spacious restaurant with a dedicated children's play area.
That kind of feature can matter more than whether the menu has five extra pizza flavours when you are trying to keep a family group comfortable for an hour or two.
Mio Pizzeria Is More About the Pizza
If your group is made up mostly of adults who actually want to sit down and eat good pizza, Mio Pizzeria in Dafna is a different sort of choice.
It focuses on Neapolitan pizza and has indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is more pizza-focused than the large chains, so there is less of the “everyone chooses something completely different from a giant menu” approach.
That can actually be a good thing when six friends already know they want pizza and the dinner is as much about sitting together and talking as it is about getting through a large family deal.
With a larger group, I would still contact the restaurant first rather than assuming you can walk in and find one large table at peak time.
Le Vesuvio Suits a Longer Dinner
Le Vesuvio in Katara is another choice if you want the meal to feel more like a restaurant outing than a quick pizza stop.
It has indoor seating and an outdoor terrace, with wood-fired pizza alongside pasta and other Italian dishes. The Katara setting also makes it easier to turn dinner into a longer evening rather than simply eating and leaving.
For a birthday, family occasion or dinner with friends, that can be more important than finding the cheapest pizza deal.
For groups of six or more, though, booking ahead is still sensible. A restaurant can have plenty of seating overall and still struggle to accommodate a large party at the time you arrive.
When Everyone Wants Something Different, Try an Italian Menu
One advantage of a broader Italian restaurant is that pizza does not have to be the only option.
Carluccio's at The Pearl is a good example. Along with pizza, its menu includes pasta and other Italian dishes, with indoor and outdoor seating around Porto Arabia.
That can save a lot of negotiation when the table includes someone who wants pasta, someone who wants pizza and another person who would rather have something lighter.
For a group, menu flexibility is sometimes more useful than having a restaurant with dozens of pizza combinations.
Jamie Oliver's Pizzeria Is Another Mall Option
Jamie Oliver's Pizzeria at Landmark Mall is another casual choice for families and groups.
Because it combines pizza and pasta in a mall setting, it suits groups where people are not necessarily looking for a specialised pizza experience. It also gives you the convenience of mall parking and other activities nearby.
If your group includes children or people arriving from different parts of Doha, those practical details can make the decision easier.
Spontini Is a Different Kind of Group Meal
Pizzeria SPONTINI in Medina Centrale at The Pearl is not the obvious choice if your idea of group dining is several whole pizzas arriving in the middle of a large table.
It specialises in Milan-style pizza by the slice.
That can actually be convenient for a group with different appetites. Someone can have one slice, someone else can have more, and nobody has to commit to a whole pizza.
It is a more casual way of eating, though, so it depends on what you want from the evening. If the plan is a long sit-down dinner, one of the more traditional restaurants may suit the occasion better.
Pay Attention to Service When the Group Gets Bigger
You notice service problems much faster with eight people than with two.
One missing drink is easy to overlook at a small table. With a large group, you can end up with people waiting for drinks, another table already eating and someone trying to find space for plates that have nowhere to go.
Recent reviews can help here. Look for comments about staff, waiting times, whether food arrives together and how the restaurant handles larger groups. More importantly, check reviews for the specific branch you intend to visit.
A brand can have excellent service at one location and a very different experience at another.
The same applies to seating. A restaurant may be perfectly comfortable for four but awkward for ten.
Match the Restaurant to the Occasion
Not every large group needs the same type of restaurant.
If you are taking children out for dinner, parking, space and a relaxed atmosphere may be your priorities. A group of friends might care more about outdoor seating, late hours and somewhere they can sit and talk.
For a birthday or family celebration, you may want to contact the restaurant in advance and ask whether they can put several tables together or accommodate a larger booking.
And if everyone in the group does not want pizza, an Italian restaurant with pasta and other mains may save you from trying to compromise on every order.
Ordering for Six Is Different From Ordering for Two
Once you get to six or more people, it is worth planning the order before everyone starts choosing individual meals.
Three different pizzas can give you much more flexibility than three identical ones. Add a few sides and you have something for people who want a smaller portion, while the main pizzas remain the centre of the meal.
If children are involved, keep at least one familiar flavour. For adults, use the other pizzas to cover different preferences.
You also do not need to order the maximum possible amount. A table covered in leftovers is not necessarily a sign that you planned well.
The Seating Can Make or Break the Pizza Dinner
When searching for family restaurants or dine-in restaurants in Doha for six or more people, look beyond the pizza photographs.
Check how the tables are arranged. Look at recent photos and reviews. Think about parking, children, noise and whether your group will be comfortable sitting there for the length of the meal.
Then look at the menu and work out how easily you can order for different tastes.
Pizza Box, Pizza Hut, Dodo Pizza, Mio Pizzeria, Le Vesuvio, Carluccio's, Jamie Oliver's Pizzeria and Spontini all approach group dining differently. Some are casual and family-oriented, some are more focused on the pizza itself, and others give you a broader Italian menu.
For a group of six or ten, that difference matters. You are not simply choosing where to eat pizza. You are choosing somewhere where everyone has enough room to actually enjoy the meal.
