Time Management Tips for Every IELTS Test Section

A lot of IELTS students have a good command of the English language, but their lack of time to complete the examination. If they take too long on one question, they may rush through the rest and forfeit marks. Practice with IELTS Coaching in Chennai can give the learners an insight into the test pattern and enable them to simulate timed practice. The main objective is to answer them as fast as possible but take full advantage of the time, remain calm and give each question the attention it deserves.

Learn about the Test Format First.

Time Management begins before the test day! Candidates are expected to understand the functioning of each section, number of questions to be answered and the time allotted. The Listening test will last approximately 30 minutes plus additional time for transferring responses in the paper-based test. Reading will be 60 minutes and Writing will be 2 x 60 minutes. The length of speaking is typically about 11–14 minutes. By practicing with these restrictions, candidates can get used to the pace without having to find out in the actual test.

Plan your practice sessions. Schedule your practice sessions.

If there is no plan, learning can take place without a balance, spending too much time on topics that are easier and too short time on topics that are more difficult. A good routine provides attention to all four skills throughout the week. Establish a target for each session e.g. 20 minutes to Read 1 passage; 5 minutes to plan 1 Writing Task 2 essay. FITA Academy offers structured practice to identify areas of weakness and to establish a pattern of accuracy and speed when preparing for any English proficiency test.

Use time while listening to manage time.

The Listening test will be challenging to concentrate on, as the recording is usually played just once. Read the questions prior to the onset of audio with instructions and available pauses. Consider what the answer might be, for example, a name, a number, a place, or a brief phrase. If you don't know an answer, skip it and go to the next one. Do not let one incorrect answer or a few incorrect answers impact the following few questions. Once it has been recorded, use all checking time to discuss spelling, grammar and answer limits.

Maintain Reading Control

The Reading section might be challenging if candidates attempt to decipher all the sentences before they can respond. Instead, skim through the questions and find key words that can help you find information relevant to the questions. Read through to get the general idea and scan for specific information. In the Academic test, a lot of candidates start with a 20-minute time limit for each passage, and then modify as necessary. If a question is too time consuming, then indicate it mentally or on the question paper and come back to it later, if time permits.

Use the Time Between Writing Tasks to divide time among writing tasks.

There is a plan for writing since both tasks will be completed within 60 minutes. One good way to do this is to spend approximately 20 minutes on Task 1 and 40 minutes on Task 2, which has more weight in the Writing grade. Take a few minutes to comprehend the question and structure your thoughts prior to writing. Allow time to edit grammar, spelling, word usage and completeness of task. Don't spend too much time on the introduction and not finish the main points.

Speaking: Stay focused

The Speaking test will be a conversation with an examiner, so candidates should do their best to speak naturally, without counting the seconds. In short questions, answer directly and include a reason/detail that supports the answer. Part 2: Using the one-minute preparation time, jot down important points and arrange a basic sequence. In the longer reply continue talking about the subject rather than waiting to get the RIGHT words. Practical speaking can facilitate candidates to present their answers fluently without memorising the complete answers.

Practice and build confidence with Mock Tests.

Mock tests give candidates a good idea if their timing approach is successful during an examination. Take timed practice tests and analyze time spent. Maybe one reading question took 5 minutes or a long time to correct one paragraph of writing. These facts point to a need for change. Make sure you make note of any timing difficulty and practice score so you can see how you're improving. Make changes to the strategy in practice, don't try a new one on test day.

Practice, reasonable goals and knowing when to walk away from a challenging question are essential to developing good time management skills. Those who are good at managing their time can allocate their time fairly to each section and avoid unnecessary pressure. With structured preparation, and timed practice at home on a regular basis, learners can develop habits towards their target band that can help them attain the score, and for future academic or professional opportunities, on the IELTS Coaching in Velachery.
