Morocco Visa for Comoros Citizens

Зміст

From the ancient medina of Fes to the bustling Djemaa el-Fna square in Marrakech and the iconic blue streets of Chefchaaouen, Morocco is a land of endless wonder. For citizens of the Comoros Islands, this North African kingdom offers a stunning blend of shared culture and exotic new adventures.

But as you plan your trip, the first major hurdle is the visa. In the past, this was a complex process. Now, with the launch of the Morocco e-Visa system, a new, faster, 100% online option is available.

However, there is a critical point that causes the most confusion: the Morocco e-Visa is not available to all Comorian passport holders. Your eligibility depends entirely on other travel documents you already have.

Do Comorian Citizens Need a Visa for Morocco?

Yes. A citizen of Comoros cannot enter Morocco visa-free for tourism or business. A valid visa is mandatory.

Until recently, this meant a complicated application at a Moroccan embassy. Now, Comorian citizens have two potential pathways to get a visa:

  1. The Traditional "Sticker" Visa: This is the standard application process at a Moroccan embassy. It is open to all Comorian citizens but requires more paperwork, appointments, and longer wait times.

  2. The Morocco e-Visa: This is a streamlined, 100% online application. It's much faster and simpler, but it is a conditional visa with a very specific eligibility rule.

This guide will focus on the e-Visa process, as it's the most common question travelers have.

Who is Eligible for the Morocco e-Visa from Comoros?

This is the most important part of this guide. Read this section carefully before you apply.

Comoros is on Morocco's "List B" (or "Category B") of countries. This means a Comorian passport holder cannot apply for the e-Visa unless they also meet one of the following conditions:

You must hold a valid Visa OR Residence Permit from one of the following "List A" countries:

  • United States of America (USA)

  • United Kingdom (UK)

  • Schengen Area (e.g., France, Germany, Spain, Italy)

  • Australia

  • Canada

  • Japan

  • New Zealand

  • Ireland

Let's look at two examples:

  • Applicant 1: A Comorian citizen living in Moroni with only a Comorian passport.

    • Result: NOT ELIGIBLE for the e-Visa. They must apply at the embassy.

  • Applicant 2: A Comorian citizen living in Paris with a French residence permit (or a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa).

    • Result: IS ELIGIBLE for the e-Visa. They will use their French residence permit as their "Supporting Document."

What if I'm Not Eligible for Morocco e-Visa?

If you are a Comorian citizen without one of the "List A" documents, you cannot use the e-Visa system. Your application will be automatically rejected.

You must apply for a traditional "sticker" visa. This is a critical point for Comorians: Morocco does not have an embassy in Comoros.

You must apply through the Moroccan embassy that is accredited to Comoros, which is the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

This process requires you to contact the embassy in Madagascar, get their specific checklist (which is usually more detailed than the e-Visa), and likely submit your application and passport there. This process takes significant time and planning, so you must start months in advance.

How to Apply for a Morocco e-Visa from Comoros?

If you have confirmed you are eligible (you have a Comorian passport + a valid US/UK/Schengen visa or permit), here is how to apply:

  1. Start Your Application: Fill in the online form with your personal details, Comorian passport information, and contact info.

  2. Select Your Visa Type: The portal will give you a choice, as seen in the application. The standard options are:

    • "Tourist eVisa - 180 days, Single entry"

    • "Business eVisa - 180 Days, Single entry"

  3. Upload Your Documents: You will be prompted to upload digital copies of your documents (more on this below).

  4. Review and Declare: This is a crucial step. You must review all your information and check several declaration boxes, including:

    • "I certify the accuracy of the information provided..."

    • "I have a valid passport..."

    • "I have hotel reservation or an invitation"

    • "I have return ticket"

  5. Pay the e-Visa Fee: Pay the non-refundable processing fee online using a Visa or Mastercard.

  6. Submit and Wait: After payment, your application is submitted for review. The processing time you selected begins now. You will receive a confirmation email.

What Documents Do I Need to Upload for the e-Visa?

The Morocco Visa Requirement is very specific about its upload fields. You will need:

  1. Passport Bio Page: A clear, color scan of your Comorian passport's information page (the one with your photo).

  2. Applicant Photo: A recent, digital passport-style photograph of yourself.

  3. Supporting Doc - Valid Multiple-Entry Visa: This is the most important upload. This is where you upload the scan of your valid US, UK, Schengen, or other "List A" visa or residence permit.

What is the "Supporting Document" for the Morocco e-Visa?

Let's be crystal clear on this, as it's the main point of failure. The "Supporting Document" is the proof of your eligibility.

On the application, you will be asked to select the "Type of Supporting Doc." Your main options will be:

  • Visa

  • Residence Permit

You must choose the one that applies to you and upload a clear scan.

The 90-Day Validity Rule: Critically, the form also states: "Please provide a copy of a valid multiple-entry visa. It must be valid for more than 90 days."

This rule is strict. If your US visa expires in 60 days, your e-Visa application will be rejected. Your supporting document (the visa or residence permit) must have at least 90 days of validity remaining from the date you submit your e-Visa application.

Photo Requirements for Morocco e-Visa

Your "Applicant Photo" must follow standard international Morocco eVisa Photo Requirements rules to avoid rejection:

  • Recent: Taken within the last 6 months.

  • Background: Must be on a plain, uniform white background.

  • Quality: Clear, in-focus, and high-resolution. Must not be blurry or pixelated.

  • Pose: Face-forward, neutral expression, eyes open. Do not wear hats or sunglasses.

  • Format: A digital file (e.g., JPEG) to be uploaded.

What is the Processing Time for a Morocco e-Visa?

The application portal lets you choose your processing speed. The fees increase for faster service. The standard options are:

  • Normal Processing: 3 to 6 business days.

  • Rush Processing: 2 to 4 business days.

  • Super Rush Processing: 1 to 2 business days.

My advice: Don't risk it. Apply using "Normal Processing" at least two or three weeks before your travel date to avoid any last-minute stress or paying extra for rush service.

How Long is the Morocco e-Visa Valid For?

This is another common point of confusion. The Morocco eVisa application states the visa type is "180 days, Single entry." Here is what that means:

  • Validity (Entry Window): You have 180 days (6 months) from the date the e-Visa is issued to enter Morocco.

  • Duration of Stay: Once you enter Morocco, your maximum stay is limited to 30 days. You cannot stay for the full 180 days.

  • Entry Type: It is a Single Entry visa. If you leave Morocco (e.g., a side trip to France), you cannot re-enter on the same e-Visa. You would need to apply for a new one.

"Why was my application refused?"

As the fee is non-refundable, a refusal is a costly problem. The most common reasons are almost always:

  1. Ineligibility: You applied as a Comorian citizen without a valid "List A" supporting document.

  2. Invalid Supporting Document: Your US/Schengen visa or residence permit had less than 90 days of validity remaining.

  3. Bad Scans: Your passport scan was blurry, had a glare, or your fingers were covering information.

  4. Bad Photo: Your "Applicant Photo" was not on a white background, was blurry, or was an old photo.

  5. A Typo: You misspelled your name or typed your passport number or birth date incorrectly.

"I made a mistake on my application! Can I correct it?"

No. Once an application is submitted and paid for, it cannot be edited.

This is why the declaration "I certify the accuracy of the information provided" is so critical. If you submitted an application with a typo (e.g., you misspelled your name), you must wait for it to be processed. It will most likely be refused. You will then have to start a brand new application with the correct information and pay the non-refundable fee a second time. Double-check and triple-check all information before you pay.

"I haven't received my e-Visa approval email, what should I do?"

Don't panic. This is a very common issue. Follow these steps:

  1. Check Your Spam/Junk Folder: This is the #1 place automated government emails end up.

  2. Wait for the Full Processing Time: If you chose "Normal Processing" (3-6 business days), don't worry on day 2. Wait for the full 6 business days to pass.

  3. Log in to the Portal: Your approval (or refusal) status is always available on your account. Log in to your dashboard. You can check the status and download the approved e-Visa PDF directly from the portal, even if the email never arrived.

Arriving in Morocco with Your e-Visa

Congratulations! Your e-Visa was approved, and you received the PDF. What now?

  1. Print It: You must print a high-quality copy of your e-Visa. While some officers may accept it on your phone, a paper copy is the official requirement.

  2. Have Your Documents Ready: When you approach the immigration officer, have the following three items in your hand:

    • Your Comorian passport.

    • Your printed Morocco e-Visa document.

    • Your original "Supporting Document" (the valid US/Schengen visa or residence permit that made you eligible).

You must be able to present all three of these documents.

Top Tips for a Successful Morocco e-Visa Application

  • Confirm Eligibility First: Before you even start, confirm you have the required US/UK/Schengen/etc. visa or residence permit.

  • Check the 90-Day Validity: Ensure that supporting document is valid for at least 90 days after you apply. This is a strict rule.

  • Find the Right Embassy: If you are not eligible, contact the Moroccan Embassy in Madagascar immediately to learn their process.

  • Use Clear Scans: Use a proper scanner. A blurry, dark, or phone-camera photo of your documents is the fastest way to get a rejection.

  • Double-Check for Typos: Your name must exactly match your passport. Your passport number must be correct. An error will make your visa invalid.

  • Apply in Advance: Don't rely on "Super Rush" processing. Apply at least 2-3 weeks before your trip for peace of mind.

With this guide, you are now ready to navigate the Morocco e-Visa system. For the many Comorians who hold an eligible supporting document, it is a fantastic and simple tool. For others, the traditional embassy route (via Madagascar) remains the clear path to your Moroccan adventure.
