If you hit a bump while leaned over on a squared-off tire, the bike is more likely to "tramline" or follow grooves in the road because the flat edges of the tire catch on road imperfections. This creates a jittery, nervous feeling in the chassis that can be particularly unsettling when traveling at higher speeds.

Maintaining the integrity of the tire profile is a matter of proactive care. While all tires will eventually wear out, there are ways to delay the onset of flat-spotting and keep your handling crisp for longer. Regular checks of tire pressure, avoiding unnecessary "burnouts," and incorporating more varied riding (choosing winding roads over motorways when possible) can help maintain a more rounded profile. However, once the flat spot is pronounced enough to be felt through the bars, the only real solution is a fresh set of rubber. It is often the most cost-effective "performance upgrade" you can make to your bike, instantly restoring the light, flickable nature that the engineers originally intended.
